Community Health Systems of Wisconsin to close Racine clinic
Move follows Chapter 11 reorganization filed in 2014
Racine, WI, January 19, 2015: Community Health Systems of Wisconsin, Inc. (CHS), a provider of primary care, and dental services with locations in Beloit, Janesville, Darlington and Racine announced the pending closure of the CHS Racine clinic. The clinic’s dental service will cease operations by January 30th. Medical services at the Racine location will continue until approval to close the clinic is granted by the Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA), the federal agency that provides oversight for Federally Qualified Health Centers like the clinic in Racine. The clinic will likely cease providing medical services within 60 to 90 days.
CHS filed voluntary petitions for Chapter 11 reorganization in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court on March 31, 2014, an action taken to assure the organization’s long-term viability. The CHS Racine location has been struggling for some time now with an inability to replace exiting providers, with reduced patient activity and consequently, with declining financial performance.
“This was a difficult decision for all involved and regrettably, provides uncertainty not only in the lives of our patients served at that location, but also in the lives of our Racine employees,” said Julie Sprecher, Interim Chief Executive Officer at CHS. “We will be working closely with area medical and dental services providers as well as with local social service agencies to meet the needs of patients whom we will no longer be caring for.”
“Regrettably, CHS’ financial situation and the requirements of our Chapter 11 re-organization plan require that we take this severe step now, one that will ultimately enable us to concentrate our resources on programs occurring closer to our primary service area,” added Sprecher.
